My name is Nicholas J. Gums, but most people call me Nick. I grew up in the Bay Area and now study at the University of Nevada, Reno. My family has shaped who I am a lot and have pushed me to work hard, stay disciplined, and take advantage of every opportunity. Being the oldest sibling of 3 has taught me responsibility, leadership, and the importance of setting a strong example for my younger siblings.

Major

I’m currently majoring at UNR in Business Management and Marketing which would give me 2 separate degrees in 4 years. I am focusing on developing real-world skills I can use immediately, especially in business, management, project coordination, and entrepreneurship. A lot of my coursework includes writing, communication, Excel, and math skills, all of which help me build a strong professional foundation.

Career Interests

I’m highly interested in business management, project management, and entrepreneurship, especially in industries where leadership, planning, and hands-on work come together. I’m also exploring the possibility of running or managing my own domestic business. Long-term, I want to build a career where I can lead teams, work with people, and create something meaningful for my community.

Work Experience

I’ve worked at a childcare service for 2 years at a prestigious gym called Bay Club and have also worked on various school and community projects that strengthened my professional skills. At UNR, I’ve completed major writing projects, multimedia projects, infographic designs, and presentations. Outside academics, I’ve gained experience related to business operations, planning, budgeting, and entrepreneurship through my old job and personal business scenarios. Every project has helped me become more detail oriented and confident in managing tasks from start to finish.

Hobbies & Passions

I’m passionate about self-improvement, music, leadership, and helping others succeed. I’ve been part of a Hispanic Affinity Club for four years, serving in leadership roles like Vice President, and I’m actively involved in my fraternity community. I have also enjoy designing digital projects, exploring business ideas with friends, and building relationships with people who share similar goals.

Goals

My goals include graduating from UNR with a strong portfolio, developing a clear path toward business leadership, and eventually running or managing a successful company. I want to continue growing as a communicator, leader, and entrepreneur. More than anything, I want to build a future where I make my family proud, take care of the people I love, and set a positive example for my siblings and future community.
